A fine rib turtleneck, high to the jaw. A cotton cardigan knotted on the shoulders. Drizzle. Pleated wide trousers over the boots. A satchel on the forearm, scuffed from somewhere further west. The poodle, just clipped, in a quilted coat. Rain on both of them. A square watch. Handed down. Something milky at the wrist, noticed by whoever sits beside her. Next month, somewhere warmer.
